-
Gently pat dry using a clean towel or washcloth.
-
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion 2–3 times daily after washing.
-
After 2–3 days, your tattoo may begin to flake or scab—this is normal.
Do Not:
-
Pick or scratch your tattoo.
-
Submerge your tattoo in water (baths, pools, oceans) for 2–3 weeks.
-
Expose your tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds for 2–3 weeks.
Tegaderm Method (Second Skin Healing)
Some artists use a protective bandage such as Tegaderm, Saniderm, or Second Skin. This method requires slightly different care:
-
Tegaderm is a sterile, breathable, waterproof barrier that protects your tattoo from germs while preventing ink and fluids from staining clothing or sheets.
-
You may shower normally, but avoid swimming or soaking your tattoo.
-
Your artist will either apply the bandage or provide instructions for applying it at home.
Care Instructions:
-
Leave the bandage on for 3–4 days (no longer).
-
After removal, clean the tattoo thoroughly with warm water and fragrance-free soap.
-
Continue washing 2–3 times daily until fully healed.
-
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion after each wash.
